[Update 1/7/2011: Repairs continue in San Diego on the fire-damaged Carnival Splendor cruise ship. However, Carnival said the ship would be moved to San Francisco in mid-January to a drydock facility, where major work could be completed. Since repairs would take much longer than originally announced, five additional scheduled sailings were cancelled December 15. The earliest Splendor could resume its seven-day itineraries to the Mexican Riviera would be February 20.]
All December 2010 cruises on the Carnival Splendor have been cancelled, along with the final three cruises of November 2010, and the first two sailings that had been scheduled in January 2011. Nine cruises, in all, have been scrubbed while repairs are made on the fire-damaged ship.
Carnival Cruise Lines made the announcement November 16, just days before a scheduled November 21 sailing. The cancellations eliminated popular cruises over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Carnival promised to refund all costs associated with the cancellations, and give affected passengers a 25 percent discount off a future cruise.
A day earlier Carnival had taken down booking options for the next month’s worth of booking options for the scheduled sailings of its fire-damaged ship, the Splendor (click on that link to read about repair updates).
A spokesman for Carnival said, “The reason that some of the cruises aren’t showing up on the web site is because they are sold out and thus do not appear on the site since no cabins are available for sale.”
The changes resulted in questions about the ship’s availability for the next month. “We checked on this and have been told that the web site has not changed,” said the spokesman Monday.
The ship had been scheduled to make 7-day Mexican Riviera cruises, out of the Port of Long Beach on Nov. 21, Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Dec. 12, Dec. 19, Dec. 26, Jan. 2 and Jan. 9.

New December 2011 itineraries are available for Splendor, but they caused some confusion because for a time this morning, clicking on December 2010 sailings took you to 2011. That seems to have been corrected. Check out my new post on today’s Splendor schedule changes.

Jerry, I just talked to Carnival and they said the Nov. 28th cruise has not been cancelled. What is your feeling on this?

That’s what they have reiterated to me, as of this morning. They said increased interest in the ship has caused a surge in bookings for the next month, and that Nov. 21, Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 cruises are now sold out.
