NEIGHBORS: What Abercrombie & Fitch Store Was That?

One of the great gags in the movie, “Neighbors” (aka “Bad Neighbours” in the UK), starring Zac Efron and Seth Rogen, was filmed outside an Abercrombie & Fitch store.

Was that a real A&F store?

Yes. It was not a set.

Okay, which store?

The answer is the one on Universal City Walk in Los Angeles.

Although the movie was released on May 9, 2014, the scene was filmed more than a year earlier – in April 2013 – when the movie was still known in pre-production as “Townies”.

A couple of other interesting trivia bits:

The scene was the second one shot, in the sequence of all scenes shot for the movie.

Efron - bad for business!

Efron – bad for business!

The scene was almost completely improvised. Efron, shirtless like an A&F model,  didn’t know Rogen would remove his shirt and pose shirtless with Efron as well. (This helped break the ice between the two, as Efron initially thought Rogen might be a jerk.)

A&F was anxious for filming to end quickly, because they said Efron and Rogen were chasing away customers.

Efron said he was very uncomfortable filming the scene at all, and couldn’t wait for it to end. “Posing as an Abercrombie & Fitch model out in front of a store – that,” Efron said, “was like my worst nightmare!”
