Hi Jerry.i have been trying to find the whereabouts of the original a-team van.after a bit of research I have found that Stephen J Cannell kept 2 vans.he sold one to the now defunct cars of the stars museum in England.after seeing your interview with Craig Baxley I was just wondering if you have heard what became of Cannells van? As this was the main van used on the show.

I stumbled across your site while seeking locations for the movie “Letters to Juliet” which I had seen last night. I wanted to confirm if I had stayed at their hotel in Tuscany, or not. I hadn’t – mine was in Pienza. I’ve now bookmarked your site and look forward to reading your view of the world.

Dear Jerry and Beth,
Did you know Letters to Juliet was also shot in Pienza? In two short scenes (while driving through Tuscany to Siena) their Lancia Delta can be seen driving through a narrow street with a big arch/gate in the background ……. Pienza!

Thanks Ron. There are so many similar arches in central Italy, I didn’t know exactly which one it was. Pienza would certainly be the right place to go, if one were looking for the perfect cheese to go with the local wines!

Jerry: Loved your article on the Corvettes at Le Mans. That a great period of American racing that many don’t know about.
If you get to Philly, please come by the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum. It’s one of the world’s greatest collections of racing sports cars. We have one of the five original Corvette Grand Sports and will be taking it out for one of our Demonstration Days on August 7.

Hi Jerry, In the movie Inception, there was a house that I believe Leonardo DiCaprio’s character’s wife grew up in. I wondered if you could tell me if that house actually exists and, if so, where it is located? I happened to be in Paris last summer a few days after seeing the movie and was on a boat on the Seine, and we passed a house that looked just like that house in the movie. Thanks for any info you can give me!
By: Wendy on February 25, 2011
at 11:26 am
I don’t know where that particular house is, but virtually everything in the movie was based on an actual location – except for the inside of the Asian castle (which was a Hollywood set). It certainly could have been in Paris, as most of the scenes involving Ms. Cotillard were shot there. But the house where they lived with their children is actually in Pasadena, California.

Hi,
I can’t find a thing about the horseless carriage in “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.” While I asssume it’s a custom built for the film, and not one of the few marques sold in 1891, I just want to be sure. Any insight, facts?

Thanks for asking. You’re right about the limited number of choices of horseless carriages available in 1891. Daimler started selling cars in 1890. I’ll go out on a limb here and say the model shown in the movie could also have been an 1891 Duryea Motor Wagon. I’ll be posting something here in a day or two, after conferring with the transportation coordinator for the film. Stay tuned.

Wow, thank you for such an informative peek into the locations for the film “The Descendents”. We travel to Kauai every so often, and it’s one of my favorite places. I wanted a little preview of what I might be glimpsing when I see the film, to know what to look for, since lots of scenic details are often of the “blink and you miss them” variety. Thanks for all the extra trivia; I hadn’t expected to find such a wealth of info! Best, Paula

Traveling to Ireland at the end of September for our 10 year Wedding Anniversary. Your posts make me excited and a little frightened that we will never fit everything in with 7 days. Do you have suggestions of must (absolutely) see? We have hotel stays in Dublin, Galway, Killarney and Waterford and have rented a car. Hope you can make suggestions. 🙂 Thanks Kim

Well, I don’t know what order you will do these towns in, but assuming you start in Dublin first, you should do a walking tour of the lovely city (guided tours are more informative and not expensive). I’ve done the hop-on, hop-off bus tours, which are also quite a good value. But the last one I took, I got a driver who was going thru the motions (I knew more than he did!)…so I got off and tried another bus. That helped a lot. The open top buses are terrific – on a dry day! The drive to Galway is quite lovely in fall. You will pass a couple of sites from the movie, if you keep an eye out. Galway has a delightful downtown; the harbor is the jumping-off point for the Aran Island ferries – another excellent fair weather activity (and movie location). Driving from there to Killarney, you’ll cross the lovely Shannon River valley, and the cutoff for the Dingle Peninsula. If you have time for the scenic Dingle loop, be sure to do it! But then, since you are going to Killarney, you can also do the Ring of Kerry (the home page photo on this blog). Must do! The drive to Waterford is less memorable (since it is mostly motorway), but still worth seeing. You can see all of southern Ireland really quickly! Waterford has some touristy things to do, but the real joy of a drive from there, back to Dublin, is the route through the Wicklow Mountains and the Glendalough Lakes area from the film. That should give you quite an ambitious and memorable trip. Are you worried you might not fit everything in? You might not. You might see someplace that melts your heart, and you’ll want to linger a bit longer. But don’t worry, that’s what return trips are for!

Thanks so much for your suggestions! That is the exact route we are taking. Dingle is a must see to us without a doubt. I’m very prepared to pull over on the side of the road numerous times to have my heart melt.

Mr. Garrett;
I was just given a copy of your internet posting of July 19, 2013, about James Hunt. You mentioned the Glen Motor Inn and meeting Hunt and other F1 drivers there. However, there are inaccuracies to the rest of story. I am sure some kind of mischief ensued somewhere, but not at our establishment. In 1973 we did not have a jukebox and we never had an actual door on the lounge. It has always been an open entrance and any music was from a PA system. Physical confrontations were not tolerated in our establishment by anyone.

Mr. Garret,
I just finished reading an older article of yours on you’r opinion of ford mavericks and after reading the comments I would just like to say i am very impressed with the way you were able to handle some of the more interesting comments very professionally and appropriately ‘witty’ at times.
As it so happens i am currently writing a paper for a college course of mine concerning a brief history of the start of the hot rodding/ muscle car era and how it has changed over the years. If you would be able to find a spare moment and maybe be able to email me maybe you’r own opinions of how muscle cars ext. have changed (for better or worse) i would be very interested to read it and if it would be ok with you include some quotes in my paper.
Thanks for your time.

If you have a copy of (or subscription to) Vanity Fair’s July 2010 issue, you would be able to see a shot of the tabloid cover story with that headline. I’ve tossed my copy, unfortunately, and let my sub expire, and all the VF online content is behind a paywall now, unfortunately. You can also see it in the 2010 book, “Furious Love”.
